Camille Maria Kennedy

Camille (McGrath) Kennedy of Washington Crossing, PA died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was 77 years old and lived her life to the fullest despite appendix cancer. Camille was born in Lost Creek, PA. After graduating from Immaculate Heart Academy in Fountain Springs and the McCann School of Business in Mahoney City she lived and worked in Philadelphia as an Executive Secretary for Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company. In 1961 Camille and William J. Kennedy (Bill) were married and started their family. In 1968 they moved with their young family to Bucks County. They lived in Southampton and Doylestown before retiring to Washington Crossing. They spent their winters in Jensen Beach, FL. When Camille's youngest child entered kindergarten, Camille started Temple University where she majored in Elementary Education, minored in Business and graduated summa cum laude. She later was certified in Special Education through Penn State. During her tenure at the Sol Feinstone Elementary School in Upper Makefield Township Camille received a national grant to go to the University of Wisconsin to learn hands-on science teaching techniques for K through 3rd grade students. She brought many ideas for exciting hands-on science projects back to Sol Feinstone and started a successful Science Fair there. Camille held herself and her students to a high standard. Her credo was "Miss a day. Miss a lot." Camille is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bill, her three children Caryn and her husband Russ Smith, Bill and his wife Wanita Kennedy, Jr. and Dr. John and his wife Julie Kennedy, and her grandchildren, Andrew, Rusty and Kevin Smith, Maria, Julia, Bill III and Catherine Kennedy, Aidan and Samantha Kennedy. She is also survived by her sisters Vera Gelsomini, Helen Corbe Lacelle and Belinda Notz and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Camille was preceded in death by her parents John and Helen McGrath, her sister Mary Ann Giannelli and her grandson Ryan Kennedy. Camille was a devout member of St. George's Church in Titusville, NJ where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Social Concerns Committee. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph's Church in Stuart, FL and a member of the Catholic Women's Association there. Camille was one of the first people to move in to the Traditions at Washington Crossing development and played an active role in the operations and social committees of her new community. She enjoyed reading, cooking, embroidering, playing bridge and meeting with the ladies of the Norleans Investment Club. Her special passion was traveling the world with her husband. Together they visited all seven continents, including Antarctica, and memorably circumnavigated the globe. Camille was a prolific maker of rosaries which she donated to missions, prisons and hospitals and she enjoyed making children's quilts which she also donated. Camille used her teaching experience as a tutor in ESL classes for adult immigrants through the Welcoming the Stranger organization. She was one of the original members of Twilight Wish which grants wishes to indigent seniors. Camille supported several military charities and spent hours cutting discount coupons which she sent to APO's around the world for service personnel to use in their PXs. Camille also volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital where she distributed neck pillows she made to patients in the cancer ward. Camille had a quick sense of humor that could make all around her laugh. She was extremely well organized, efficient and a perceptive judge of character. She had the uncanny ability to cut to the heart of a matter which made her the go-to person for advice and guidance. She had a lifelong passion for politics and was a compassionate conservative long before that term became popularized. She will be remembered for her many acts of individual generosity and kindness to others. Family and friends are invited to meet the family starting at 9:00AM on October 24, 2015 at St. George's Church, 1370 River Road, Titusville, NJ 08560. Camille's funeral mass will start at 10:00AM followed by interment and a luncheon.
