Carl Joseph Lauricella

January 28, 1928 — August 16, 2021

Carl J. Lauricella, 93 passed away with his family by his side in Lady Lake, Florida on August 16th. Predeceased by his parents, Onofrio and Beatrice Lauricella, his brothers Andrew (Lois), Vincent (Eleanor), John (June), Raymond (Rose), and his sister Frances (Vincent) Gilligo. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Mary Louise of Lady Lake, FL, his children, Daniel of Ewing, NJ, Louise Ann of Orange City, FL, Carl J Jr. (Donna) of Pennington, NJ, Ronald of Ewing, NJ, Kevin (Suzanne) of Hopewell Township, NJ and Janine (Matt) Sherman of Gainesville, FL, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews and many friends and colleagues.
Carl was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Pennington and Hopewell Township, graduating from Central High School of Hopewell Township. During his years at Central High, Carl excelled as a National Honor Society student and played basketball and baseball. He received the student-athlete award from the Hopewell Township Lions Club and was also the president of his class in 1946.
After high school and during college at Trenton State, Carl had two tours of duty in the Army. While in college, Carl played football as a member of the 1951 undefeated, college Hall of Fame team coached by George Ackerman. Carl was president of his fraternity, Phi Epsilon Kappa, graduating in 1953. He received his Masters of Science degree in Education from Trenton State in 1965.
After college, Carl taught for two years at Junior School #1 in the Trenton School District. In 1955 Carl became Recreation Director at the Bordentown Reformatory for Boys. In 1957, Carl became a physical education and health teacher at the junior high school level for the Hopewell Valley Regional School District until his retirement in 1985.
Carl coached soccer, basketball and baseball for many years, as well as youth soccer and Little League baseball for 20 years. As a result of his accomplishments, Carl was inducted into the 2003 class of the Hopewell Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a special contributor.
Carl had many interests over the years. He was a charter member of the Pennington First Aid and Rescue Squad. He was an active member of his church, St. James in Pennington, serving as Principal of Religious Education and was a lector for masses for many years.
Carl had many talents as a mason and carpenter, building his home in Hopewell Township. He also enjoyed gardening, landscaping and was an excellent baker.
A humble, honest and respected member of his family and community, Carl will be missed by many. Contributions in Carl’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A reception to celebrate Carl’s life will be held at St. James Church in Pennington on Monday, August 23 from 5PM-7PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, August 24 at 10:30 AM at St. James Church. Please visit Blackwell Memorial Home website www.blackwellmh.com to leave condolences.
