Obituary for Chuck

Dr. Charles S. (Chuck) Papier passed away in Fort Myers, FL on Saturday, June 25. He was born in Trenton and graduated from Red Bank High School in 1953. Chuck received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He and his wife Judy were stationed in Germany for several years during his time in the Army. Chuck went on to practice optometry in Pennington for 35 years with Judy providing support every step of the way.
Son of the late Harry and Reba Papier, and brother of the late Donald Papier, he is survived by his wife Judith. They would have been married 70 years in August. He is also survived by sons Dr. Kenneth Papier and Jeffrey Papier (Phil Barboro), sister-in-law Lenore Papier, and granddaughter Maddie Papier.
During his time in Pennington, Chuck served as President of the New Jersey Optometric Association and received a number of professional awards from that organization. Chuck was also active in the American Optometric Association. He served as President of the Pennington Lions Club, the Children’s Home Society of New Jersey, and the Central Jersey Optometric Association. Chuck also served on the Board of Directors of Greenwood House in Trenton. In 1981, Chuck established a free eye clinic for Greenwood House residents and managed the clinic until his retirement in 1990.
Chuck and Judy maintained homes on Long Beach Island, NJ and Sanibel Island, FL. In recent years, he and Judy resided in Fort Myers, where Judy still lives. Chuck loved his family and enjoyed spending time with family and friends wherever he lived. His hobbies included tennis, boating, fishing, gardening and reading. He will always be remembered for his love of family, generous nature, playful wit, and wisdom about life.
