Grace Frances Vollmer Scheetz

September 21, 1914 — August 17, 2020

Born in Lancaster Pennsylvania, Grace was the sixth of seven children to Jacob and Mary Vollmer. As her age indicates, she was a woman of great physical stamina and a strong contagious faith in her Lord and Savior.

Residing in Pennington the last sixty years, Grace raised three children, Richard, Sherry Peters and Fred, along with her husband Richard, who predeceased her. During their over sixty years together, she and her husband also raised three of their grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren who are spread throughout the eastern half of the United States. As a great woman of faith, she shared her views with all, emphasizing the “power of positive thinking” and the saving “grace” of her Lord.

During the course of her life amazing Grace was a school crossing guard, office assistant at then Rider College, a volunteer Braille typesetter - proofreading same for the Association for the Blind, cook for church youth groups as well as the weekly meeting of a men’s group, a People to People host and sponsor of folks from all over the world AND an accomplished Bridge player who remained active, and in demand as a partner, frequently coming in first at Bridge Matches through her 100th birthday.

She regularly attended church and was a familiar presence in churches throughout Hopewell Borough as well as her home church, Pennington Presbyterian. During her stays with her daughter in Pittsburgh she also became a regular participant at the Allegheny Center Alliance Church where she continued to be a witness to her LORD and Savior. All have been blessed in knowing her and she now resides in peace with her LORD.

A memorial service will be held at a future date when the way be clear with a private interment service for immediate family and invited friends that will be directed by Blackwell Memorial Home.

In lieu of flowers you are invited to make contributions in Grace’s memory to either the Pennington Presbyterian Church’s memorial fund at 13 South Main St in Pennington, NJ 08534 or the Allegheny Center Alliance Church’s Mission Fund, 250 East Ohio St. Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
