James Hugh Wallace

October 24, 1926 — July 18, 2015

Lawrenceville. James Hugh Wallace, age 88, died Saturday, July 18th at St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing Center in Lawrenceville, NJ. Born in Trenton, NJ, Jim was the son of James and Margaret Wallace. Predeceased by his beloved wife Catherine, he is survived by Kathleen Wallace and Sy Platt of Churchville, PA, Ellen and Tandy Lofland of Houston, TX, Anne Hersh of West Orange, NJ, Patricia and Mark Massa of Plano, TX, Joan and Thomas Finnerty of Princeton, NJ, and James Wallace of Bellevue, WA. He leaves ten grandchildren, Maggie Wallace-Cullen, Tandy Lofland, Catherine Bixler, Matthew Hersh, Timothy and Peter Finnerty, and Harry, Ethan, Whitt and Phoebe Wallace. Jim is also survived by his sister Margaret Albert of Simsbury, CT, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog Bridgette. Jim graduated from Trenton Catholic High School and served in the Navy during WW 11 as a signalman on the Jeremiah Rusk Liberty Ship. He worked at Fort Dix for many years, retiring as Chief of Utilities. After retirement, Jim and his wife, Catherine, moved to New Bern, NC. In New Bern, Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, an active volunteer; he worked with Special Olympics, helped in the New Bern Soup Kitchen, and taught adults to read in a literacy program. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James Chapel, Eglantine Ave., Pennington on Tuesday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements are by the Blackwell Memorial Home, Pennington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to Smile Train at www.smiletrain.org or mail to PO Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090-6231.
