Obituary for Jane Cadwallader Fletcher

Jane Cadwallader Fletcher, wife of Alfred E. Fletcher, died August 23, while recovering from hip surgery at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Jane grew up in Pennington, a small town in NJ, the middle sister of three girls. She earned her bachelors degree in home economics from Douglass College.

In 1951, Jane married her beloved Al, and they had two daughters. Their 69 year marriage was a testament to their deep and unwavering love. They were a constant team, always supporting each other and their passions of art and sailing.

Jane was a life-long Presbyterian and member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church for 40 years, where she coordinated the newsletter for 7 years and sang in the choir for many more.

Jane was an accomplished watercolorist painting very realistic works of art based on the photographs she took from Maine, to England, to the Florida Gulf Coast. At one time, she was taking three art classes a week working on the picture of the moment. While she never sold her artwork, she did give some to a lucky few. For years, she enjoyed her monthly bridge group and Newcomers Club.

In later years, she and Al divided their time between homes in Maine, Shell Point and Tallahassee. The pair enjoyed sailing together on Apalachee Bay and at Wooden Boat School in Maine.

She is survived by her husband Al, two daughters, a son-in-law, four grandchildren, one granddaughter-in-law, one great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
