Joan Shepard(Fleet) DeNicola

Joan Shepard (Fleet) DeNicola Died on January 21st at her home at The Fountains, Stack Boulevard, Melbourne, FL. She was 90. She was born October 31, 1923 in Englewood, New Jersey, the daughter of the late William Hamilton Theophilus Fleet and Mabel Pollard Heath. Wife of the late Louis J. DeNicola whom she married on October 7, 1966 in Pennington, NJ. A graduate of Tenafly High School, Tenafly, NJ, she attended Pace Institute in New York City and subsequently served for more than 20 years as special assistant at Rockefeller Bros., Inc. In that capacity she was responsible for a variety of Rockefeller family personal arrangements both in Manhattan and at other residences throughout the country. Following her marriage, she moved to Pennington, NJ, where she and her husband maintained a produce farm on family acreage. She lived there until his death in 2000. During that period she was active in numerous civic and political organizations. Both she and her husband enjoyed rallying with other Airstream trailer owners at locations throughout the country. In 2001, she moved to Melbourne, FL, and became a resident of The Fountains, where she continued to be a leader in a variety of volunteer and community efforts. A direct descendant of many of this country's original founding families including Mayflower passengers Elder William Brewster and Stephen Hopkins, Capt Henry Fleete, patriarch of one of the First Families of Virginia, and numerous Revolutionary War patriots. Survived by two nieces, Carole Heath Jackson Dilley and her husband James E. of Cambridge, NY, and Barbara Fleet Jackson Hoffman, of Selinsgrove, PA, and three nephews, Christopher Stevens Jackson and his wife Susan G., of Millersville, MD; William Hamilton Fleet, Jr. and his wife Karin Z. of Charlotte, NC; and David Howell Fleet of Phoenix, AZ. Also survived by step-daughter Louise Geraldine DeNicola of Indialantic, FL, and three step-grandchildren Jonathan Wallhauser of Satellite Beach, FL, Mary Wallhauser Hopkins of Naples, FL, and Mark Wallhauser of Red Bank, NJ. She was predeceased by her sister Shirley Heath Fleet Jackson and her brother, William Hamilton Fleet, Sr. Visitation at 10:30 a.m. and Funeral Service at 11a.m. on Saturday, February 1st at the Blackwell Memorial Home, Pennington, NJ. Burial will follow the service at Ewing Church Cemetery, Scotch Road, Ewing, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at The Fountains, Melbourne, FL at a date to be determined.
