Obituary for Margaret T Johnston

Margaret T. Johnston, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 20th with her five children by her side.

Born in Skaneateles, NY, she resided in Brooklyn, NY, Metuchen, NJ, East Windsor, NJ and for the past 13 years, Pennington, NJ.

After getting married to her husband William J. Johnston on November 10, 1956, Margaret stayed home and raised her five children, and later worked at McGraw Hill Publishing, where she retired after 15 years of service. Margaret was a member of St. James Church.

Predeceased by her parents Peter and Catherine (Walsh) Earley, her husband William J. Johnston, and many close family and friends.

Survived by her loving children: Keith Johnston of Santa Fe, NM, Kathleen Krivcov of Lawrenceville, NJ, Susan McCabe of Pennington, NJ, Moira Sandford of Pennington, NJ and, Monica Schouten of Pennington, NJ. Her son in laws: Peter Krivcov, Michael McCabe, Peter Sandford, and Robert Schouten. Her grandchildren: Morgan and Nick Webster, Grace McCabe, Brian and Claire Elyse Sandford, Clare Sandford, Leah Sandford, Liam Krivcov, Brendan Kohn and, Patrick Schouten.

An avid reader who often read multiple books at one time and could have a conversation with anyone on any subject (of course she was partial to certain subjects). She was our lifeline of personal history, recalling details as if they just happened. Fiercely independent, our mother was a liberal thinker who led by example and taught us to be open minded, informed and kind. She donated to charities for the poor for years.

Lovingly known as Grandmother, her 8 grandchildren were in awe of her. She was in constant contact with them either through email, text, or visits. Being able to be a part of their lives and many milestones will just add to all the amazing memories with her that they will forever cherish. As we kept our Father’s memory alive as Grandfather Angel, Grandmother will be talked about lovingly with a smile to all future great grandchildren.

Our Mother’s continued strength and grace she showed all of us was remarkable, in difficult times, as well as happy times. We will forever have a hole in our hearts, but our Mother was a woman of faith. In her words, time does not heal, but through faith you will learn to accept. Our Father would always say to our Mother that “as long as they have each other they will be ok”. That proved to be profound as we all were able to honor our mothers wishes, talk to her, and be there with her as she passed peacefully to once again be with our Father and loved ones.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 25, 2021, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at St. James Church, 115 East Delaware Ave. Pennington, NJ 08534. Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday at St. James Church.

Burial will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we welcome a donation to St. Francis Breadline, Franciscan Bread For The Poor or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
