Robert Elmer Hunt, 82, peacefully joined his wife Sylvia in heaven on November 15, 2018.

Residents of Hopewell Township for 57 years, Bob and Sylvia moved to Twining Village in Holland, PA in August 2017 before Sylvia's passing in December 2017.

A Business Administration graduate of Rutgers University, Bob started his professional career in the insurance industry as a Claims Adjustor with Liberty Mutual in 1958. In 1970, he became the Assistant Director for the Department of Risk Management at Rutgers University. Bob was a member of the Hopewell Township advisory board which resulted in the creation of the Hopewell Township Recreation Commission where he served as the first president.

He was an avid sports fan and could always be found watching college or professional games on TV, favoring the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies and New York Yankees.

Bob played both baseball and basketball in his younger days and turned down an opportunity to play professionally for the Boston Red Sox. He spent many years playing in various softball leagues. He umpired recreational softball, refereed high school and recreational basketball and was also a swimming official. In 2005, he was inducted into the Trenton Softball Club Hall of Fame honoring his work as a softball umpire.

He was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Pennington, NJ for over 50 years serving on a multitude of committees during his years there.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Sylvia, as well as his great-grandson, Aiden Leatherman.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Patty & Jonathan Holmes and Debbie & Mark Oschmann; son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Lucia Hunt; grandchildren Shannon Dowling, Colin Holmes, and Matthew, Brianna and Christopher Hunt; great-grandchildren Pandora, Lorelai and Audrey Leatherman.

He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Richard and Pat Hunt, and sister and brother-in-law Peg and David Stouppe, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to especially thank the nurses and staff at Twining Village, DaVita Newtown Dialysis Center, Bright Star Care and Serenity Hospice for their loving care of our father.

Calling hours will be Saturday December 1st 9am-11 am at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 300 S. Main Street, Pennington, NJ with a Requiem Eucharist and interment immediately following. The family invites all to a reception at the church immediately following the service.
