Obituary for Ruth Schmidt Burd

Hopewell Township. Ruth S. Burd, 90, died at home on Sunday. She was born in Ewing Township and was a resident of Hopewell Township for many years. She and her husband retired to Frankford, DE in 1988 before to returning to Titusville in 2014. She was a stay-at-home mother before going to work for the Pennington Quality Market in 1965, advancing to the position of Head Checker. She enjoyed reading, camping, clamming, needle work, gardening and birdwatching. Ruth was a long-time member of the Titusville United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. When she moved to Delaware she joined the Millville United Methodist Church, Millville, DE. She was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Anna W. Schmidt and two brothers, Carl and Paul Schmidt and a sister, Anne Kroschwitz. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Clinton O. Burd, two sons and daughters-in-law, William R. and Sharon L. Burd and James C. and Debra A. Burd, all of Titusville and four grandchildren, Erick and Stacey Burd of Titusville and Matthew and Brielle Burd of Ewing and great grandchildren, Julianna and Kaitlin Burd of Titusville and Benjamin and Adam Burd of Ewing. A sister, Joan Mowery of Stephen City, VA as well as numerous nieces and nephews . Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington with the Rev. John Morrison officiating. Interment will follow in Harbourton Cemetery. Friends may call at the Blackwell Memorial Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Titusville United Methodist Church, 7 Church Road, Titusville 08560 or the Millville United Methodist Church, 3640 Clubhouse Road, Millville, DE 19967.
