Dorothy M. Brogle

November 30, 1922 — March 8, 2015

DOROTHY M. BROGLE AGE: 92 • Pennington (formerly Rumson) Dorothy M. Brogle, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Pennington NJ on March 8, 2015 with her loving family by her side. She was born on Thanksgiving Day, 1922, in Long Branch and grew up on the Martin family farm in western Neptune graduating from Neptune High School in 1940. In 1943, Dorothy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the New Jersey State Teachers College at Trenton. During World War II, she taught high school and volunteered for the Red Cross as a driver transporting wounded soldiers by ambulance and truck between local and New York military and medical facilities. In 1944 Dorothy met and married the love of her life, Albert P. Brogle Jr. When he returned from the war, she dedicated her life to family and volunteerism. Dorothy was a devoted and loving wife and the mother of four children guiding them and supporting them in whatever they pursued. She was a tireless contributor to many community organizations in Rumson where she resided for nearly 60 years before relocating to Pennington in 2006. As an active member of the Rumson Women's Club for over 50 years, she participated in and chaired many of their charitable events and was named Woman of the Year in 1982. For 31 years she was a driving force within the Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School Bulldog Boosters where she served as secretary supporting and promoting the school athletic program. Dorothy was a woman of enormous strength with a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. She loved being surrounded by family, friends and flowers; growing African violets (for which she won many blue ribbons); knitting sweaters for her family and caps for hospital preemies; collecting Hummel figurines; driving way too fast; always winning at cards; and taking care of the many pets she adopted over the years. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband Al, her daughter and son-in-law Donna B. and Gordon E. Coggshall, and her son-in-law Raymond W. Cagle Jr. She was also predeceased by her brother Franklin A. Martin and her twin brother Charles C. Martin with whom she shared a special bond for 92 years. She is survived by her daughters Andrea Cagle of South Ponte Vedra Beach FL and Melissa A. Brogle of Pennington, and by her son and daughter-in-law Paul M. and Janice S. Brogle of Hopewell. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and by her "TaffyCat". A private grave side service will be held on Saturday March 14 followed by a gathering of friends and family at the home of her son. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy's name may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (www.pdf.org) to support those afflicted, as was her late son-in-law Gene Coggshall. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Blackwell Memorial Home (www.blackwellmh.com). Photo: Dot (age 21) at USO formal on the night that she first met her future husband Al.
