James Sidney Braswell

James Sidney Braswell III of Pennington, NJ, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022. He was 84 years old.
He was born and raised in Murfreesboro, TN to Hannah and James Braswell. Jim received his bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee. He went on to teach at the University of Cincinnati and received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin in 1969. Jim worked for nearly 40 years at Educational Testing Service in Princeton including taking an assignment for the American Institute of Research in Washington DC. Jim spent his entire professional career in the field of education with a focus on standardized testing including the SAT and ACT. In addition to working with various state programs, he traveled to Guyana, Kuwait, and Puerto Rico to assist their adoption and development of standardized tests. Jim was a devoted member of the Pennington United Methodist Church for over 50 years developing strong relationships with fellow parishioners and continuously strengthening his faith. Jim was an avid tennis player and enjoyed swimming, spending time with family, reading stories to his grandchildren and working outdoors.
Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Joyce Braswell (née Martin). He is survived by his brothers, Robert and Will Vick, and his four children and their families, Tama and Rob McKinley, John and Debi Braswell, Krista and Jason Stutzman, and Craig and Christine Braswell. Jim was a very special grandpa to his 11 grandchildren, William, Hannah, Bennett, Samantha, Nathaniel, Olivia, Joshua, Rachel, Michael, Jack, and Charlotte and was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Noah and Eleanor James. He was well-loved by family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N Main St., Pennington, NJ. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. on July 29, 2022 at the Pennington United Methodist Church, 60 S. Main St, Pennington, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St Jude Children's Hospital Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101.
