Joseph E. Sickels, Jr

Pennington, NJ. Joseph E. Sickels, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 27, after a long illness. Born in Trenton, he had moved to Titusville in 1940 with his parents, Joseph and Dorothy (Van Lieu) Sickels. During his career he had worked for Ameican Bridge, Rockwell Manufacturing Company in Hopewell and Princeton University's Forrestal Campus. He was former President of the Pennington Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the NJ National Guard. He coached competitive travel soccer teams for many years. He was an avid pigeon flyer and he loved the outdoors, particularly the Pine Barrens, where he seemed to know every inch of the area. His other interests included local history, canoeing, fishing, gardening, baseball, fishing and soccer. He took a year off from his work to build his home in Pennington in 1958 He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jocelyn (Stout) Sickels and two daughters and their husbands, Cathy Fortenbaugh and Peter McGrath, Margie and Paul Pomerantz and two sons and their wives, Chris and Karen Sickels and Jonathan and Renee Sickels and elevengrandchildren, Patrick and Sean Fortenbaugh, Donald and Robin McGrath, Mark, Jessica and Michael Pomerantz and Henry, Alex, Parker and Lauren Sickels and two great grandchildren, Kyle and Katelyn Barth. In addition, he is survived by his sister Mary W. Hundley and many nieces, nephews and good friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 at the Titusville United Methodist Church, 7 Church Road, Titusville NJ with the Rev. John Morrison, pastor officiating. Friends may call at the church from 12:00 noon until the time of the services; interment will follow in the church cemetery.
