Lawrence “Larry” Suydam, 89, of Titusville, went to be with his Lord on July 14, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family, after a two-year battle with congestive heart failure.
Larry was born April 20, 1934 in Phillipsburg, NJ. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1951, and was a proud Eagle Scout. He attended Rutgers University and graduated from its Agriculture School in 1955. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1955 and served in Germany through 1957. He was a dedicated employee of the US Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration (FHA), and worked his way up to being state director of the FHA in New Jersey.
Family and relationships were very important to Larry. He was a loving and devoted husband to Betty Jane, a father of two sons and two daughters, “Poppy” to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and a beloved co-worker, neighbor, and friend to many. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening, and especially doing these with loved ones.
Larry is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jane Suydam, his son Edward Suydam, his parents Frank and Margaret Suydam, and his brothers, Hank and Jim Suydam.
He is survived by his son Hank Suydam (and wife Laura), and daughters Dawn (and husband Tim) Clydesdale and Judy Hively (and husband Bob Boltner). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Adrienne Suydam, Frank (and wife Marielle) Suydam, Corey Hively, Kimmie (and husband Tyler} Revak, Heather (and husband Kevin) Barile, Matt Suydam, Jonah Clydesdale, and Grace Clydesdale, and four great grandchildren, Daniel and Leah Barile, and Ryan and Lyla Revak.
Family and friends may call on Saturday July 22, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 12 N. Main St., Pennington, NJ, with a Christian funeral service to begin at 3:00 pm. A reception will follow, with details provided after the service. Burial (private) will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Phillipsburg, NJ, at the convenience of the family.
