Martha M. Logan

February 21, 1932 — December 7, 2014

Martha Myers Logan Pennington. Martha Myers Logan, 82, died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 7. Raised in Marietta, GA, Martha lived in the Atlanta area for her first 40 years. In 1972, the Logan family moved to Barrington Hills, IL, and in 1982, they moved to NJ. She was a resident of Lawrenceville and Pennington for more than 30 years. Martha Logan will be remembered for her inspiring creations, delivered with her Southern charm in loving, gracious ways. She was a fine artist first, and she will also be treasured for her amazing and delicious meals and gracious hospitality, her lovely altar decorations and flowers at St. James Church in Pennington over many years, and her great appreciation for nature, flowers, animals, and the outdoors. More than any of her other wonderful gifts, Martha will be remembered for her deep love and commitment to others - her family, dear friends, and the church. Martha was an active member of St. James Church over many years, serving as CCD teacher, RCIA sponsor, member of the New Church Committee in the 1980's, founder of the Lazarus Group, and leader of the prison ministry. With her husband Joe, Martha was actively involved with The Lawrence Historical Society, particularly involved with saving the Brearley House. During the years the Logans lived in IL, Martha was a parent leader of the Fox River Valley Pony Club, and a supporter of her family's involvement in the Fox River Valley Hunt. Martha graduated from Christ the King High School in Atlanta, attended the University of Georgia, then transferred and graduated from Mundelein College in Chicago, IL. Martha lost her beloved husband of 55 years, Joseph Andrew "Joe" Logan III, in October 2013. She is survived by four children and their families: Maggie and her husband, Houston Landis, and their three children, Christopher, Devon and Jessica; Helen and her husband, Tom Ledwith; Patrick and his partner Kamie DeMille; and Matthew and his wife, Margaret Reed, and their two sons, Andy and Luke. Martha was also the mother of Andy, the late Lt Joseph Andrew Logan IV. In addition, Martha is survived by her twin sister, Eleanor Caldwell, of Winston-Salem, NC, and her brother, Fred Myers, of Swannanoa, NC, and their children. Martha also had an older sister, Mary Myers Kraan. In the last year of her life, Martha (and the Logan family) was supported by the special care of Millie Chijindu. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Church, 112 E. Delaware Ave, Pennington, on Monday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call Monday morning prior to the service, from 9:00 - 11:00 am at St. James. Interment will be private.
