Obituary for Kenneth E. Petrie

Kenneth E. Petrie, 91, passed away on Friday at the Birches, Newtown, PA. He was born in Allentown, PA and had resided in Pennington for 59 years before moving to Newtown in 2015.
He served with the U.S Army during WW11 in the European theater from 1943 to 1946. He was employed by General Motors in Ewing as a Job Setter for 39 years, retiring in 1987. When he moved to Pennington in 1956 he became a caretaker for the Pennington United Methodist Church, just down the street from his home, a position he continued throughout his years in Pennington, no matter the weather conditions he went to check on the church every evening. The most important part of “Pop Pop’s” life was his grandchildren, to all of them he was “the fairest manaround”. He always believed in a cupcake before breakfast and that there was always room for ice cream.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Brennan Petrie, three siblings; Robert, Arlene and Leonard as well as a step brother Sonny . Ken is survived by two daughters, Catherine E and her husband, Michael McMahon, Jane E. and her husband Charles Chmielewski and three sons, Keith R. Petrie, Thomas Petrie and Timothy M. Petrie. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Sean McMahon and his wife, Shelley, Megan McMahon and her fiancé, Joseph Schmeltzer, Tyler and Ashlee Chmielewski
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington, followed at 8:00 p.m. by a service with the Rev. Daniel Casselberry, Pastor of the Pennington United Church, officiating. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday in the Friends Burial Ground, Wrightstown, PA.
